La aventura empieza... con tres horas de tardanza/The adventure begins... with a 3 hour delay

Hola a todos, ¿qué tal estáis?

Estoy aquí en el aeropuerto en Phoenix esperando mi vuelo con destino a Londres. A causa de todas las tormentas y la nieve en Londres, el avión que viene desde el Continente para recogernos se ha retrasado unas 3 horas -- así retrasando nuestro vuelo unas 3 horas también. Pero eso no quiere decir que no sigo súper emocionado para el comienzo de mi aventura madrileña -- emocionado y preparado ya lo estoy :)

Mientras miro hacia delante a los siete meses llenos de nuevas experiencias, nueva gente y nuevas oportunidades tanto personales como académicas -- sé que estoy listo y más que preparado... en teoria. Sí, es verdad que ya he estado en la Península -- pasando un verano en Salamanca y varias ciudades en Andalucía en 2006 -- pero esta va a ser la primera vez que he realmente vivido en el extranjero y en otro idioma, con otra cultura y otra forma de vida. Claro, sé muy bien el idioma, conozco bien el país y la forma de vida española -- pero son dos cosas distintas saber algo y vivirlo. Reconozco que es posible que muchos de mis conceptos ya formados de la gente española y del país en sí puedan ser equivocados -- pero siempre me ha encantado lo nuevo y especialmente las nuevas experiencias, así que no hay ninguna duda en mi mente de que lo voy a pasar genial durante estos siete meses -- sólo tengo ganas de experimentar todo ¡ya!

Ahora son las 9:28PM horas fenicias, 5:28AM horas madrileñas y las 11:28PM en Colombia -- un poco menos de dos horas hasta que subamos el avión y este viaje épico sobre el continente norteamericano y el Atlántico realmente comience -- ¡¡qué emoción!!

Espero poder manteneros al tanto por lo menos semanalmente, pero, como con todo lo que tiene que ver con esta experiencia, no sé qué me espera al otro lado del Atlántico -- lo único que sé es que ¡quiero empezar ayer!

Hello everybody, how are you?

I'm here at the airport in Phoenix waiting for my flight to London. Because of all the storms and snow in London, the plane coming from the Continent to pick us up was delayed about 3 hours - so our flight was subsequently delayed 3 hours too. But that doesn't mean I'm still not super excited for the start of my adventure in Madrid - excited and more than ready :)

As I look ahead to the seven months full of new experiences, new people and new opportunities, both personal and academic - I know that I'm more than ready ... in theory. Yes it's true that I've been on the Peninsula - spending a summer in Salamanca, and several cities in Andalusia in 2006 - but this will be the first time I've actually lived abroad and in another language, another culture and another way of life. Sure, I know the language well, am familiar with the country and the Spanish lifestyle - but it's much different to know about something and to live it. I recognize that that many of the ideas I have of the Spanish people and the country itself may be wrong - but I've always loved new things and especially new experiences, so there is no doubt in my mind that I will have a fantastic time during these coming seven months - I just want to experience it all now!

The time now is 9:28 PM Phoenix time, 5:28 Madrid time and 11:28 PM in Colombia - a little less than two hours until we board and this epic journey across the North American continent and the Atlantic actually begins -- how exciting!

I hope to keep you updated at least once a week, but as with everything that has to do with this experience, I don't know what awaits me across the Atlantic - all I know is that I want to start yesterday!

The next time you'll hear from me will be from Álvaro's father's flat in Madrid!
